 Science in Gateway Primary School

In Gateway Primary School, we encourage our children to develop a healthy curiosity about the world around them and to promote respect for all living things.  Furthermore, we want our children to understand the uses and implications of science, how it has changed and shaped our lives and how vital it is to the world's future prosperity. Scientific enquiry skills are embedded in each topic and science teaching in our school is planned to ensure that all children are able to acquire key scientific knowledge through practical experiences; using equipment. conducting experiments, building arguments and explaining concepts confidently. A love of science is nurtured through a whole school ethos and a varied science curriculum.

Science offers children an opportunity to:

• To develop problem solving skills where children can apply their knowledge and find out answers for themselves.
• To engage in challenging tasks using high-quality resources to test conceptual knowledge and skills.
• Use their existing knowledge to plan pursue their own interests
• To develop working scientifically skills which are taught systematically through the child's school career.
• To engage in extra curricular activities, workshop with experts, trips and visits to complement and provide broader provision and the acquisition and application of knowledge and skills.
