Gateway Primary School
Gateway is a wonderful place to be! We are proud to have a strong military community, with many of our pupils coming from service families connected to RAF Brize Norton. Our school is wonderfully diverse but also highly mobile, with children frequently joining and leaving as families move between military bases or are posted overseas. As a result, many children do not spend their entire primary school journey with us.
We understand that frequent moves can disrupt learning, with children experiencing different schools, curriculums and expectations. We work hard to minimise this impact, helping children to settle quickly, feel a strong sense of belonging and make meaningful progress from the moment they arrive.
Our curriculum delivers all subjects through engaging, topic-based learning, enriched by trips, visitors and opportunities to explore and discover. We want learning to be memorable and purposeful, particularly for children whose education may be interrupted by moves. Our priority is to ensure that, however long children are with us, they develop a rounded academic foundation, strong learning behaviours and the confidence and resilience to tackle secondary school successfully.

Working with RAF Brize Norton - 'Move with Confidence'
RAF Brize Norton is the largest RAF station in the UK and is home to the RAF’s Air Mobility Force. It plays a vital role in UK Defence, providing strategic and tactical air transport, air-to-air refuelling and global mobility in support of military operations, exercises and humanitarian missions. The station enables personnel, equipment and supplies to be moved rapidly around the world and supports the UK’s ability to respond to international events and crises.
This has a significant impact on the local community and, in particular, on Gateway Primary School. With many of our pupils coming from families based at RAF Brize Norton, we are a school shaped by the realities of military life. Children may experience deployment, periods of separation from parents and frequent moves between military bases, often joining or leaving Gateway at short notice. Our school therefore plays an important role in providing stability, continuity and a sense of belonging for children whose family lives are closely connected to the UK’s Defence community.
